Are you a paying member of YouTube Premium or YouTube Music? Neither am I. Therefore, we are subjected to the whims of YouTube ads united in douchebaggery. You couldn’t plan a more obnoxious community. The ads are loud and insult your intelligence. They are not outliers, they are united.
I’m a frequent YouTube visitor and not the only one. According to Semrush, as of September 2024, YouTube is the second most visited website worldwide after Google, receiving more than 75 billion monthly visits.
YouTube Ads: It’s All About the First Line
You’ve just settled into the best 10-minute mediation you’ve found on YouTube. If you were any more relaxed you’d be in a coma and…
HOW DO JUSTIN BIEBER AND THE ROCK MAKE 100 MILLION DOLLARS A DAY?
AMAZON IS STILL PAYING ME $63,000 A MONTH! AND I DON’T SELL ANYTHING!
WHAT’S HEALTHIER, ALMOND MILK OR SOY? NEITHER! DRINK HEAVY CREAM!
WHAT IF I TOLD YOU THERE’S A 15-SECOND WORKOUT FOR RIPPED ABS?
WHY DON’T DOCTORS TELL YOU TO TAKE SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS MAGNESIUM INSTEAD OF A STOOL SOFTENER?
You’re one minute in and there’s an ad (They call them "interruptions"). User experience?
You Asked For It
If you are a YouTube creator and a member of the YouTube Partner Program, you may choose when, but not what, ads appear with your product. As a viewer, you can generalize what ads you see via your Ad Center. You can utilize an ad blocker for a price, but YouTube continually updates its software to block the blockers.
YouTube’s Ad Settings state: “YouTube aims to show you relevant and useful ads based on your activity, but you’re always in control. With Ad Settings, we make it easy for you to control what data we use to personalize ads to you. This includes information you’ve added to your Google Account, what we’ve guessed about your interests as a result of your activity, and interactions with other advertisers that partner with us to show ads.”
If you’ve ever used a computer, your activity has covered every topic, whether you intended it to or not, and I’m talking about nice people.
Any Ad For Money
According to Statista, In February 2024, YouTube crossed 100 million paid subscribers across its Music and Premium services. “This represents an increase from the 50 million paying subscribers across the platform's services from September 2021. During the third quarter of 2023, YouTube generated almost eight billion U.S. dollars in advertising revenues.”
You Cannot Stop the Douchebaggery, You Can Only Hope to Contain It
Want to stop the douchebaggery altogether? YouTube Premium is $13.99 per month for an individual or $22.99 per family. It removes all ads including third-party banner and search ads. YouTube Music Premium is $10.99, which removes ads from just the music.
Whether you are a YouTuber, a viewer, or a blocker, without a membership, you cannot stop the douchebaggery, you can only hope to contain it.
