Jesse the Pool Guy Prepares for Christmas Eve Pool Party
Jesse the Pool Guy
Chapter 11
By Bob Deakin

Jesse the pool guy wishes everyone a happy Holiday season as he prepares his client’s pool for a Christmas Eve bash. He’s training an assistant today on how to make your pool water glisten and lights twinkle like a pro.
He’s in Florida, which is one of the few places you can enjoy a pool at Christmas. The party is at the Hahn household, which promises to be wild, to say the least. Their son Caleb has been somewhat of a thorn in Jesse’s side with various antics that radically alter pool chemistry.
Last Valentine's Day he colored the pool red, and in October, he created an all-encompassing mushroom cloud.

Vacuum, Brush and Balance
As any pool pro will tell you, vacuum first, then brush before repairing a fixture. You vacuum when the debris is settled, maximizing removal. Next, brush walls and floor to remove any fine debris the vacuum misses.
In the case of the lights, this may help clear algae and debris around them, making your job easier.

Making Spirits Bright
Jesse tackles the hardest part second: Cleaning the underwater lights. Fortunately, he’s done this many times. The first step is always to cut the power!
His assistant, Caesar, stands poolside ready with soft brushes, soap and water. Jesse dons his snorkel mask with a screwdriver.
“I’m goin’ in!” he says before gently entering the water. He makes his way down, unscrews the first light and brings it to the deck. Then it’s on to the next for the same thing.
The wires are long enough for just this purpose. Jesse disassembles the fixture from the gasket and inspects all the interior surfaces, which are in excellent condition.
Caesar gets to work with a gentle cleaning of the lens and housing as Jesse checks for algae, damage, and bad gaskets, then gives them a good rinse. All appears in superb condition and worked fine before he turned off the breaker.
From there, it’s back into the pool. He carefully wraps the wires back in place, screws in the fixtures, and it’s back out to catch some air.

Now that the walls, floors and lights are in order, it’s time to balance the chemicals. Knowing the customer, Jesse boosts chlorine levels in preparation for alcohol, food, strange chemicals, and whatever else guests decide to add once the party's hopping.
He also adds a clarifier to make the water shine.
He cleans the filter, skimmers, baskets, pressure and every other working part to ensure efficiency. On top of that, he and Caesar hose down the pool deck and give a good wipe to the ladders and coping.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Now that the pool is ready for the party, they double-check electrical components, properly stow away hoses and equipment, and ensure life rings and safety poles are in place.
“What more is there to do?” Caesar asks incredulously.
“Pray for a merry Christmas, and hope Caleb has another party to go to,” Jesse responds. “Our work here is done.”
